In this professional development session learners will look at ways to work positively with families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The unit aims to increase your confidence and provide excellent guidelines when we are working with parents and professionals. The unit contains case studies, reflections from Paediatric Massage Consultants and Certified Infant Massage Instructors on real life experiences, and tips for your best practice.

This session takes approximately 1 hour to complete and contains a quiz at the end of the unit. Pass mark = 80%

What is Asthma

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways that is characterised by recurrent and reversible airway obstruction.  Asthma is a condition that causes occaisional tightening of the air passages, making it difficult to breath air in and out of the lungs.  Athma results in airway hyperactiviy is caused due to repeated airway inflammation causes the airways to narrow in response to various stimuli, such as allergens, exercise or cold air.

Asthma in young children is one of the most common causes for visits to the doctor and hospitilisation.  Asthma is the most chronic disease of childhood and the rates of asthma are increasing.

The unit will work through the definition of a preterm birth; identify the possible causes of preterm birth along with the physical characteristics of a preterm baby and a breakdown of preterm baby development at 28 weeks through to a term baby of 40 weeks.   This Preterm Babies CPD unit will aid any infant massage instructor or health professional working directly with preterm infants and their families, or for instructors and health professionals educating infants and families within the broader community.

This professional development unit looks at understanding the term (37-42 weeks) baby at birth and early post birth touch.

 

This unit will work through understanding the fetus at term prior to birth, the first breath at birth, first touch bonding with mother and father, an introduction to the breast crawl, the reflexes and senses of a newborn and how massage can be beneficial to a baby from birth.

 

This Early Post Birth Touch CPD unit will aid any infant massage instructor or health professional working directly with newborn babies and their families, or for instructors and health professionals educating infants and families within the broader community.

 

This Early Post Birth Touch unit should take about 1 hour to complete along with a short assessment quiz at the end.  

This professional development unit looks at infant feeding and common digestive complaints in the first 6 months.

 

This unit will work through understanding infant feeding and common digestive complaints in the first 6 months and how infant massage can be beneficial.   This CPD unit will aid any health professional or infant massage instructor working directly with infants and their families, or for instructors and health professionals educating infants and families within the broader community.

This professional development unit looks at maternal mental health during pregnancy and into the postnatal period.

This unit will work through understanding antenatal depression, postnatal depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and postnatal psychosis along with how infant massage can be beneficial. This CPD unit will aid any health professional or infant massage instructor working directly with infants and their families, or for instructors and health professionals educating infants and families within the broader community.

This CPD unit should take about 1 hour to complete along with a short assessment quiz at the end.

This professional development unit looks at female breast anatomy, composition of breast milk and breast feeding.

This unit will work through understanding breastfeeding, including; the anatomy of the breast, how breast feeding works and how infant massage can be beneficial in promoting and encouraging ongoing breast feeding.   This CPD unit will aid any health professional or infant massage instructor working directly with infants and their families, or for instructors and health professionals educating infants and families within the broader community.
